编者按：迷人的风景、醉人的美食、独特的夜经济、众多的网红打卡点，深厚的文化底蕴……对湖南的热情与向往早就不仅于国内，越来越多的外国人也闻名而来。来自美国的老夏（Denis）就是其中一个。他不仅来了，还爱上了这里，留在了这里。作为一个在长沙生活了五年的外国人，他开始用视频记录这里的一切，不仅让更多的外国友人了解湖南，也给我们了解湖南提供了一个全新的视角。

Editor notes: The increasing number of people, not only domestic tourists but also foreigners from other countries, has been attracted by Hunan’s charming natural scenery, delicious local snacks, special night market, countless internet-famous sites, a time-honored history and rich culture. Denis, who comes from America, is one of them. He came here about five years ago and decided to stay here for a while. He wants to share everything which he experienced in Hunan and also provides a new way for us to know our hometown.

老夏在湖南的故事一经推出，反响热烈。是时候让大家和老夏正式认识一下。

The stories about Denis have stired up a good social repercussion. Many audiences are keen to know Denis well. It’s time to do this!

今年是老夏在长沙的第四年，在长沙学院教授英语课和公共演讲课。他自称湖南本地人，他的好朋友帮他取了个中文名叫夏士理，人称老夏。

It’s the fourth year for Denis in Changsha, and now he is mainly teaching English and public speaking at Changsha University.He claims to be a native of Changsha and has a Chinese name, Xia Shili, which was given by his friend.

作为一名公共演说家，Denis曾去过五十多个不同的国家，已经适应了不断变化的多元文化。可当他来到中国时，却被这里深深吸引，“我来到中国的那次旅行本该持续两周，但我待了三周, 因为我真的很喜欢（中国）。”

Denis has been to over 50 countries as a public speaker and has adapted to the varied multicultural atmosphere. But when he came to China, he was deeply attracted by here, "My trip to China was supposed to be two weeks, but I stayed for three weeks because I really liked China so much."

老夏喜欢在校园里骑摩托车。

Denis的学生，来自外国语学院的向金秋说，“我觉得他是一个永远敢于尝试新鲜事物的人，并且也鼓励我们走出舒适圈。”

Xiang Jinqiu, a student at the School of Foreign Languages, said of Denis, "I think he is a man who is always brave enough to try new things and encourages us to get out of our comfort zone."

正如他的学生所描述的那样，Denis非常热衷于尝试新事物，喜欢具有挑战性的事情。“我喜欢旅行，我最喜欢的旅行是我从来没有去过的地方。我最喜欢的食物，是我从来没有吃过的食物。”

Just as his students said, Denis is really eager to try new things and face new challenges. "I love to travel. My favorite place to travel is somewhere I’ve never ever been to. My favorite food to eat is something I’ve never eaten before."

Denis自己创建了一个视频号，他会和粉丝去分享在长沙尝试各地小吃的感受，也会去打卡一些有趣的景点，又或是分享作为一名长沙“本地人”的日常生活。他的学生说，“Denis不仅是我们的老师，也是我们的朋友。”

Denis created a video channel online, and he shares the feelings and tips for trying street foods in Changsha, visiting some charming sights, or sharing his daily life as a "local" in Changsha with his followers. One of his students said, "He is not only our teacher but also our friend."

他看起来总是那样快乐，那样活力满满。经常有人问他，会不会想念在美国的家人。Denis告诉我们，他当然会想念自己的孩子、孙子们。但他觉得在这里，同事、学生们都会需要他的建议，和他一起交流学习。Denis觉得对于他来说，被需要的感觉比被爱的感觉更重要。

People around him are often wondering whether Denis will miss his families in America. Because he is always cheerful and enthusiastic at all times. Denis told us he definitely missed them. However, he believes that colleagues and students need him even more than his families. Denis considers the sensation of being needed to be more significant than the feeling of being loved.

除了是一名大学教师，Denis还是神经语言学反应师和临床催眠治疗师。他知道很多关于大脑如何工作的知识，所以他能够控制自己的自我意识和情绪，来保持快乐。Denis有时候不得不悲伤，他说：“你应该允许自己去感受那些感觉，而不是试图隐藏他们。如果你把这些消极情绪藏起来太久，他们就会在后来像火山一样爆发。”

Besides being a college teacher, he is also a neural linguistics practitioner and a clinical hypnotherapist. Denis knows a lot about how the brain works, so he actually controls his own self-conscious mind, which helps him to regulate his temple and be happy. He admitted that there are moments when he must be sad, "You should allow yourself to feel those feelings, not just try to hide them. If you suppress a negative emotion for too long, it would just blow up like a volcano."

Denis表示，他未来想继续留在中国，并且还有一些“遗留目标”。他想做一些即使在他离开以后，也能给社会带来益处的事情。比如，他正在写一些关于演讲的教科书、拍一些视频教程、做一些短视频，他希望能靠这些获得一些收入，并把这笔钱用在比如学生奖学金、慈善事业等能够一直延续的事情上。

Denis mentioned that he hoped to stay in China in the future, and he still has some goals to complete. He wishes to do things that will benefit society long even after he passes away. For example, he is writing some textbooks about speeches, shooting video tutorials and creating short videos. He expects to earn some income from these and put it towards things that will stay forever, such as student scholarships and charity.
